Series description

The mission of the International Perspectives on Education and Society (IPES) book series is to provide evidence and explanations of research and its application in the field of comparative and international education. The series also provides an opportunity for critical analysis of the field itself, which is often neglected in the periodical literature and edited volumes published in the field.

IPES is comprised of an Annual Review of Comparative and International Education (ARCIE) as well as other themed volumes. The annual review volume reviews where scholars and professionals in comparative and international education have been and where they are headed as a field, and offers stimulating observations about where the field could or should be going.

Multi-award winning series

The IPES volume "The Century of Science" has won awards from both AHSE/CIHE for Significant Research on International Higher Education and from the Association of American Publishers for Professional & Scholarly Excellence in Education Theory.

The CIHE Awards Committee said, "The Committee was impressed by the longitudinal scope of the study, the rigorous application of econometric methods, and the attention to both intra-national and cross-national analyzes in the volume. The combination of these elements makes the volume truly innovative, and holds great potential to serve as a model for future research."

2023 ANNUAL REVIEW OF COMPARATIVE AND INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION
https://www.emerald.com/insight/publication/acronym/IPES

Editor: Alexander W. Wiseman, Texas Tech University, USA

The Annual Review of Comparative and International Education is a forum for stakeholders and scholars to examine current trends and identify future directions in comparative and international education. For the 2023 Annual Review we welcome chapter proposals that trace the vast, complex, entangled geographies of power beyond familiar “national containers” (Shahjahan & Kezar, 2013). Attending to Shahjahan and Kezar’s cogent critiques of "methodological nationalism" and the limitations to critical analysis therein, we invite contributors to deliberately think outside of the bounds of contextual specificity, and instead explore the ways various asymmetrical relations of power spill over, flood, push through, overwhelm, and thus shape global and transnational education.

Chapter proposals are invited for the following sections,
A.    Conceptual and Methodological Developments: addressing current trends regarding how theory and research methodologies frame comparative and international education research and practice.
B.    Research-to-Practice: highlights the translation of comparative and international education research into practical applications and situations in educational systems worldwide.
C.    Area Studies and Regional Developments: provides insight into shifts in the unique social, cultural, political, and economic contexts for education in specific regions worldwide and the implications of this for the field of comparative and international education.
D.    Diversification of the Field: features new topics and issues that have been underemphasized or that show particular promise within the field.

Chapter proposals should (a) be 1000 word summaries, (b) identify the preferred contribution section (see A-D above), and (c) deal explicitly with as many of the following as applicable: objectives or purposes; methods, techniques, or modes of inquiry; data sources or evidence (if applicable); results, conclusions, or point of view; and the significance or relevance of this manuscript to the volume’s overall theme and the development of CIE as a field.
