Series description

Decision analysis and operations research (DA-OR)-based models are the cutting-edge methodologies that draw upon fields such as psychology, sociology, economics, information theory, mathematics, statistics and computer science in order to offer a holistic, global comparison of the options and possible outcomes for any major, difficult decision faced by an organization. Their interdisciplinary nature accounts for the various, complex motivations of individual actors and for multiple, often conflicting criteria for success. Within both the scientific community and the public sector, DA-OR is widely recognized as the most effective tool for the evaluation of major decisions, yet only a limited number of consulting firms are able to demonstrate the practical values of DA-OR tools to their corporate customers.

This series addresses the game-changing potential of DA-OR along with similar cutting-edge methodologies for a broader range of organizations wishing to optimize their responses to major developments within technology and society. It covers topics such as artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0, sustainability, soft computing, and advances in automation, and its individual books will show how DA-OR and related tools can account for the impact of such issues upon production and operations management, risk management, data analytics, and logistics and supply chain management, among other operations. Books in the series will also address a uniquely wide range of industries and contexts, including agriculture, biomedicine, economics, environmental engineering, energy planning, finance, health care, industrial engineering, manufacturing, natural resource management, public policy, strategic management, sustainability, transportation and waste management to name a few.

All books in the series will follow a similar, logical structure, and their interdisciplinarity and cutting-edge approach will ensure that their findings apply to a broad range of real-world topics and contexts.

The series will cover the following types of volumes:
  • Authored volumes
  • Edited volumes
  • Conference proceedings
  • Short research (thesis-based) books
  • Monographs
